Described by director Von Sternberg as “the downfall of an enamored man,” The Blue Angel tells the story of a well respected and successful teacher ( Emil Jannings) who’s obession with a local caberet singer (Marlene Dietrich) leads to ruin and madness. Considered the first major German sound film, it helped to launch Dietrich’s career and introduced her signature song “Falling in Love”. We are showing the rare, ENGLISH version. Believed to be lost until 2009, it shows the original actors, saying the same dialogue in English (mostly done phonetically) which was common in early sound technology.
