THE DUKE is Director Roger Michell’s (Notting Hill, Another Year) swan song starring Academy Award winners Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren about the 60-year old taxi driver, who stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London in 1961 and then sent ransom notes saying that he would return it if the government agreed to provide television for free to the elderly. This true crime caper story about the first (and only) theft in the Gallery’s history has already delighted and inspired audiences across the globe.
