“One of the best silent films for the whole family, this magical production of Peter Pan is true to both letter and spirit of Barrie’s nursery tale” Steven Greydanus, Decent Films
Director Herbert Brenon and Cinematographer James Wong Howe create a magical and enchanting film of JM Barrie’s enduring tale of the boy who won’t grow up. Peter Pan, played by Ballet Russe ballerina Betty Bronson (who was hand picked by JM Barrie), arrives at the Darling home searching for his shadow. Peter befriends Wendy, Michael and John, spinning such a captivating tale of his home, Never-Never Land that they demand to go back with him. With the help of fairy dust, Peter teaches them to fly home, where they meet Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, mermaids and Captain Hook and his band of pirates.
This was the first cinematic adaptation of Barrie’s 1904 play, and preserves what makes Peter Pan such an eternal classic: it reminds us of the mysteries and wonder of childhood.
