To commemorate Black History Month, Rosendale Theatre proudly presents HOW THEY GOT OVER – introduced live in person by the film’s director, Robert Clem. The documentary examines the struggles and triumphs of America’s gospel groups that toured America in the 30s, 40s and 50s. They were the first crusaders for American civil rights, as they defied oppressive Jim Crow laws while making musical history. HOW THEY GOT OVER will screen on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:00pm at the Rosendale Theatre, located at 408 Main Street, Rosendale, NY. The film runs 87 minutes. The film contains classic performance footage of the Soul Stirrers, Dixie Hummingbirds, Blind Boys of Alabama and Mississippi, Sensational Nightingales, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Highway QCs, Davis Sisters, Sister Rosetta Tharpe –and many more.
