On Thursday, January 25, at 7pm, a food justice three-film series begins with Common Ground, the highly anticipated sequel to the documentary, Kiss the Ground, which was viewed by over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health.
Hollywood actor/activists and luminaries Woody Harrelson, Ian Somerhalder, Donald Glover, Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, and Rosario Dawson join award-winning producer/directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell to bring this collection of stories from the front lines of the food movement. Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.
Following the film, a panel of local farmer-activists, including Jesse Goldfarb, Tributary Farm, Andi Novick, Terra Mater Farma, Leah Penniman, Soul Fire Farm, Creek Iverson, Seed Song Farm, and Diana Seiler, director of the Holistic Health Community Soil to Soul program, will hold a roundtable discussion about what they and others are doing locally with their own regenerative farming practices. Questions from the audience will be welcomed.
