7:15 pm | 1 hr 55 min | Documentary | Admission is sliding scale, $10 suggested, less if you can’t, more if you can! If anybody wants to show up with $30 or $100 or $7,000, that would be wonderful | There will be a short Q&A after the screening with Mr. Shabazz’s lawyer, Michael Susan, an internationally recognized civil rights and constitutional law attorney.
The the Ismail Shabazz defense fund presents THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION, the first feature length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party, its significance to the broader American culture, its cultural and political awakening for black people, and the painful lessons wrought when a movement derails, by Master documentarian Stanley Nelson.
This showing at Rosendale Theatre is through special permission from the filmmaker. Proceeds from the box office will go toward the defense of longtime local Civil Rights activist Ismail Shabazz. Ismail Shabazz was a member of the original Black Panthers until the Black Panthers disbanded, after cointelpro ( (a portmanteau derived from COunter INTELligence PROgram) infiltrated and defamed them.
Mr. Shabazz is the chairman of Black Panthers for Justice, a now international organization carrying on the principles of resistance and empowerment of the original Black Panthers.
All funds will be sent to Michael Sussman for the continued defense of Ishmael Shabazz, against the entrapment that the Federal government attempted to perpetrate against him, using provisions of the Patriot Act, and the USA Freedom Act. Ulster County’s law enforcement is using this case as a test and example to keep local activists from defending the defenseless, and from exposing police brutality and corruption.
