What else would you expect from Rosendale? Rosendale Theatre will celebrate the artistic legacy of William Shakespeare with a Shakespeare Slam—a gathering to tangle with the Bard in songs, soliloquys, scenes, and sketches. The program includes the work of William Shakespeare as well as works that were Shakespeare inspired like “The Original Julius Caesar, with Apologies to Old Jews Telling Jokes,” written by Howard Menikoff. In separate excerpts from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the magical character of Puck will be played respectively by three very different actors. It is an event made for the connoisseur as well as the curious as the theme of this event is to bring the community together in a motley mash-up meant to result “as you like it.” The program will last approximately 75 minutes.
Conceived as a “kick-off” event to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the purchase of the Theatre by the Rosendale Theatre Collective, the Shakespeare Slam! will include appearances by Doug Motel, Carrie Wykoff, Ann Citron, Mourka, Claudia Brown, Phillip X. Levine, Bobbi Katz, Monique Fowler, Johanna Winer, Raine Grayson, Tim Bruck, Zach Gibson, Don Fraser, Maitreya Wykoff-Motel, Fiona Frazer-Gross, Jason Dempsey, David Wilkes, Marcy Bernstein, Lilly Azmitia, Bill Vanaver and Krista Muller. We hope that this will become an annual summer tradition for Rosendale.
Quote from Mary Lois Adshead, who is coordinating the event: “This is a first-time venture for Rosendale, and through it we hope to excite a community-wide love for the works of Shakespeare. We’re all having so much fun working with the scenes, which show the infinite artistry and variety of one of the greatest writers of all time! Watching the show will be a great way for young and old to acquaint themselves with some of the most poetic language ever to be created for the stage.”
