Played by Sally Hawkins (Made in Dagenham, Spencer) Phillipa Langley is an amateur historian on a mission to locate the remains of and rescue the reputation of the last British king to die in battle: Richard III. This charming and probing  drama from the team behind Philomena asks compelling questions about Britain’s sense of history, and who ascends to greatness.

Phillipa must convince the authorities and her husband (Steve Coogan) that her quest is not as mad as it first seems. Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones) features as Richard III in fantastically imagined sequences in dialogue with Phillipa as she seeks to find the soul of a king. At its surface, The Lost King puts a mystical, yet comedic spin on the true story of the 2012 finding of Richard III’s remains in a Leicester city car park. You’ll quickly see that there’s nothing dry about bones.

“Sally Hawkins is Oscar-worthy in this crowd-pleasing Ricardian tale.” ★★★★★ Evening Standard
