Audacious in its recreation of the glory days of the 1960s and the famed group, THE DOORS stars Val Kilmer in a hypnotizing performance as group frontman Jim Morrison, a singer both sacred and profane, before he imploded at age 27 in 1971. The cast also includes Meg Ryan, Kevin Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Frank Whaley, Michael Madsen, punk rocker Billy Idol and Kathleen Quinlan. There is a cameo by Doors band member John Densmore.
With a budget set at $32 million, THE DOORS was filmed over 13 weeks, predominantly in and around Los Angeles, Paris, New York City and the Mojave Desert. During the concert scenes, Kilmer did his own singing, performing over the Doors master tapes without Morrison lead vocals.
