The Hollywood Reporter called the film as “uplifting as it is moving” and a “valuable addition to the ever-growing canon of Holocaust-themed documentaries”.

The Rosendale Theatre is proud to commemorate Italian-American Heritage & Culture Month with the showing of:                  MY ITALIAN SECRET

This extraordinary documentary tells the heroic story that was all but lost to history, until now. The film recounts how WWII bicycling idol Gino Bartali, physician Giovanni Borromeo and other Italians worked with Jewish leaders and high-ranking officials of the Catholic Church, risking their lives by defying the Nazis to save thousands of Italy’s Jews.

After the film there will be an interview (via Zoom) with Vincent Marmorale, the producer of My Italian Secret and the President of Italy and the Holocaust Foundation. Almost 30 years ago Vincent Marmorale met a survivor of the Holocaust, Walter Wollf. Marmorale was a social studies high school teacher on Long Island at the time with an interest in the Holocaust. Wollf shared his story about how he was saved in Italy by ordinary Italians who risked their lives to save him and his family. Wolff then introduced Marmorale to many other Jews who were saved in Italy and had similarly compelling stories to share. Marmorale recognized the importance of this Italian story and sought to preserve it for posterity. This friendship led to the birth of the Italy and Holocaust Foundation as well as the film, My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes.
