Photographers:
Larry Arvidson graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1969 with a B.S. degree in zoology & chemistry and moved with his wife to become a research technician at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in Shrewsbury, Mass. After their first child, they went to Connecticut to study Marine Biology at the University and with the National Marine Fisheries Service in Woods Hole, where they both learned to dive, and Larry became interested in photography. Larry studied the Ansel Adams Zone system and composition with Guido Organski. In 1973 they moved to Rosendale, NY, where Larry joined a consulting firm to study the ecology of the Hudson River for Central Hudson. Larry presented several papers at professional society meetings and became employed by the Environmental Department of Central Hudson, heading their hazardous waste division; later transferred to their Cost & Rate department and became an expert witness for rate design in gas & electric rate cases.
During that period, Larry & Sandy had two more children, became active in community affairs, supported the activities of their growing children, and competed in local tennis tournaments, distance running events, and triathlons: all subjects for Larry’s photographic hobby. Now retired, with seven active grandchildren, his current photographs mostly record their activities sprinkled with Rosendale and Rondout Valley scenes and critters.
Anne Coleman Johnson has been blessed to live most of her life in the magical, mystical Catskill Mountain area. Her favorite places are in the woods, near a stream, and climbing a mountain. While observing nature, she preserves the images of the beauty of our special part of the world.
This is how she has found strength, balance, and peace. She desires to share what she sees with you and to touch a place in your heart with her pictures. Anne welcomes you into her world of wonder.
Ulster County Tourism, Open Space Institute, and the Wallkill Valley Land Trust have used Anne’s work to showcase this area’s beauty. She has also been the resident photographer for The Rosendale Theatre Collective for years. Anne has also volunteered for many Rosendale Street Festivals, helping set up vendors and taking photos.
