Local Artist Gurmi Lama’s Paintings and Prints at Rosendale Theatre
From September 1 through October 31, local artist Gurmi Lama will present a sampling of his paintings and prints in the lobby of the Rosendale Theatre in Rosendale, NY. The images represent a fusion of thanka painting techniques, Himalayan culture and contemporary themes. His work has been featured in galleries in Washington, Texas and New York City, and held by collectors across Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia.
Gurmi was born in Solukhumbu, Nepal, located in the shadow of Mt. Everest. As a teenager, he was trained as a thanka painter and later studied contemporary art with veteran Nepalese painter and writer Manuj Babu Mishra. For nine years Gurmi taught at the Naropa University Abroad Program in Nepal. In 2005, he moved to the United States and now lives in Stone Ridge, where he paints, and designs and builds stone structures.
The exhibit is free and open to the public whenever the Theatre is open.
