Join us for a special night to celebrate the art and inventions of animation pioneer Max Fleischer. He was a pioneer in animation – having created the Rotoscope, “follow the bouncing ball,” and the iconic Betty Boop, to name just a few of his contributions. Although he made over 700 cartoons, many have been lost, neglected or ignored.
In this special program, the cartoons of Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, Popeye The Sailorman and more will be showcased in beautiful new high definition transfers. These brand new restorations are sourced from the UCLA Film & Television Archives and original film elements from the Paramount Archives.
Stay after the show for a special Q&A with Jack Theakston to learn about the restoration efforts being done to save these wonderful pieces of art. Jack is a film historian and archivist, he has been working with classic movies since he was a teenager. First introduced to 16mm collecting at an early age, Mr. Theakston has since become one of the leading authorities on realism technology history in film, including 3-D, widescreen, stereophonic sound and color.
This show has everything for the connoisseur of vintage, classic Fleischer art; for the animation maker or enthusiast; and for the eternal youth in all of us.
