“It’s a Gift” (1934)
W.C. Fields is at the top of his game as grocery store owner Harold Bissonette who battles a shrewish wife and assorted annoying children, customers and salesmen. Featuring many routines honed by Fields from his career over the years 1915–1925 including: “The Picnic”, “A Joy Ride” and “The Back Porch”.
“It’s A Gift” is perhaps the best example of Fields as the Everyman battling against his domestic entrapment. Historians and critics often applaud “It’s a Gift’s” many memorable comedic moments!
“Man on the Flying Trapeze” (1935)
Ambrose Wolfinger (Fields) struggles with the challenges of life including his hilariously overbearing wife, good for nothing brother-in-law and a variety of funny misadventures including burglars singing in his cellar!
Fields’ signature comedic style combining slapstick and clever wordplay is prominently featured throughout the film. A classic example of W.C. Fields at his best!
