The production comes to Rosendale Theatre in the form of a gorgeous HD cinema event on Sunday, September 14, at 2:00 pm. Conceived by choreographer Jorden Morris, Moulin Rouge – The Ballet, is the 75 year old Royal Winnipeg’s biggest box office success to date.
Atlanta’s INtown newspaper proclaimed, “It’s moments like this that make ballet fans out of people who think they don’t like ballet.” The score for Moulin Rouge is a dreamy cocktail from composers Debussy, Massenet, Lehar, and many others including Edith Piaf. Lavish costumes by Anne Armit and Shannon Lovelace and Andrew Beck’s set makes for a theatrical spectacle that is becoming rare-er and rare-er in the ballet world and need to be seen. Stars Amanda Green, Christian Clark, Yosuke Mino, Amar Dhaliwal with the Artists of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, magically transport us to the City of Light.
Moulin Rouge – The Ballet premiered in 2009 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, North America’s oldest continuously operating ballet company. The filmed version, directed by Pierre & Francois Lamourex, was released in 2014. The Moulin Rouge, the Parisian cabaret made famous in the art of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, was founded in 1889 and is still in business!
Dance Film Sundays, a series which started in June 2010 under the auspices of the Rosendale Theatre Collective, are held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at Rosendale Theatre.
