If breastfeeding is so easy, why is it so hard for so many women in the United States? First time director/producer Dana Ben-Ari became fascinated with breastfeeding after the birth of her first child. The result is her groundbreaking documentary, Breastmilk, co-produced by film maker and actress Ricki Lake. The film will be shown as part of a fundraising event to help support the Mid-Hudson Lactation Consortium and the Breastfeeding Initiative of Ulster County, two local coalitions who promote, protect and support breastfeeding in the region.
Expectant couples, breastfeeding advocates, supporters, friends, families, business owners, healthcare professionals and community members are invited to view this controversial, adult-themed, documentary with us, and to join us for a lively discussion immediately following the film. Invited panelists include: Connie Kieltyka, LM, CNM, CLC, Olivebridge Midwifery; Stephanie Sosnowski, IBCLC, Deputy Director at Maternal-Infant Services Network, Coordinator Mid-Hudson Lactation Consortium, Donna Bruschi, IBCLC, LLLL, Owner New Baby, New Paltz, President, Breastfeeding Initiative of Ulster County, and Liz Fernandez, CBC (CBI), CD (DONA), LMSW, Empowered Mother Counseling.
In addition to the screening of the movie, photographer Kristine Palmer will be available to take a professional photo of you and your loved ones, just in time for Valentine’s Day, beginning at 1 pm. $25.00 will provide you with a 10 minute photo shoot, and the opportunity to choose the 3 best pictures to be emailed to you.
Admission to the movie screening and panel discussion is $15 per person (online pre-registration) or $20 at the door. For more film information, contact Stephanie at ssosnowski@misn-ny.org. Online registration will be available at www.misn-ny.org. To schedule a time slot for your photo shoot, call Kayla at 518-742-9638.
