Artist’s New Work Forum Presents: Suicide Imprint, an anthology reading

Tuesday, November 15th, 2016

7:15 pm | FREE ADMISSION | 1 hour
A live reading, Suicide Imprint, will be presented at the Rosendale Theatre on November 15, 2016 as part of the Artist’s New Work Forum series (in which audience members receive free admission in exchange for their feedback). The reading is by seven women—Ingrid Blaufarb Hughes, Dawn Breeze, Lorraine Coscia-Ackerman, Maureen Cummins, Linda Melick, Karen Ogborn, and Denise Ranaghan—who participated in a writing workshop co-created by Maureen Cummins, Beverly Donofrio, and Denise Ranaghan, with sponsorship through the Mental Health Association in Kingston, NY. The workshop was for suicide survivors (people who had lost someone they loved to suicide) and individuals who had attempted suicide.
On November 15, this group will come together in collective power, to transform a fearful, taboo subject into knowledge and life experience that can be shared and understood. The first-person accounts they present are a moving testimony to what it is to lose a loved one, or to almost lose oneself.
The evening will begin with contextual remarks by Cummins and Ranaghan, and conclude with a Q & A session.

The Artist’s New Work Forum provides an opportunity for artists to present new work or works-in-progress to the public. Admission is free, and audiences are asked to participate in a survey and Q&A immediately following the presentation with the artist(s). Gauging audience reaction is a key element to work-shopping the piece and is at the core of this program.
