“Another Telepathic Thing,” a rare collaboration between Annie-B Parson, one of America’s leading dance-theater choreographers, and Jonathan Demme, acclaimed film director.  Inspired by Mark Twain’s morality tale “The Mysterious Stranger,” the elegant and haunting “Another Telepathic Thing” is a prismatic and complex dance-theater parable performed by Big Dance Theater, the company directed by Parson and co-director Paul Lazar, and captured by Demme on film.

At once cynical and spiritual, the work centers on a charismatic stranger whose visit shatters the peace of a mythic hamlet.  Big Dance Theater’s performance of “Another Telepathic Thing” was filmed by Demme (“The Silence of the Lambs,” “Philadelphia,” “Rachel Getting Married”) in February 2000 at Dance Theater Workshop in NYC. The film was completed in 2015 with funding from Dance Film Association’s Production Initiative and premiered at Baryshikov Arts Center.  The film features performers Tymberly Canale, Stacy Dawson, Molly Hickok, Cynthia Hopkins, Paul Lazar, and David Neumann, with text supervision by Scott Renderer, music by Cynthia Hopkins, set by Joanne Howard, lights by Jay Ryan, and sound by Jane Shaw.

Outside of Big Dance Theater, Annie-B Parson has created choreography for operas, pop stars, television, movies, theater, ballet and symphonies. Parson choreographed David Byrne’s musical “Here Lies Love” at both the Public Theater and The National Theater in London; Her work for theater, opera and film includes the recent Meryl Streep/Jonathan Demme movie “Ricki and the Flash,” for Nico Muhly’s opera “Dark Sisters,” and such plays as Lucas Hnath’s “Walt Disney” at Soho Rep, Sarah Ruhl’s “Orlando,” “Futurity” at ART, as well as the string quartet ETHEL. She recently choreographed David Bowie/Ivo Van Hove’s new work “Lazarus” at New York Theatre Workshop.

Dance Film Sundays, a series which started in June 2010 under the auspices of the Rosendale Theatre Collective, are held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at Rosendale Theatre.
