Actors & Writers, in collaboration with the Rosendale Theatre, will present a special reading of Mark St. Germain’s acclaimed play Dancing Lessons as a benefit for earthquake survivors in Nepal.
Performed by local favorites David Smilow and Dannah Chaifetz, and directed by Shelley Wyant, Dancing Lessons is an offbeat comedy about a brilliant, socially clueless professor with pronounced autism who desperately wants to learn how to dance so he can participate in an upcoming awards banquet.  He turns to a badly injured Broadway dancer who lives in his building, and learns that emotionally, she’s far more damaged than he is.  The Albany Times Union called Dancing Lessons “a terrific new romantic comedy” and the New York Times praised “the adroit writing of Mr. St. Germain, a shrewd specialist in matters of human psychology.”
Doors open at 6:45 and the reading begins at 7pm, to be followed by a live auction from 9-10pm.  Admission is flexible: $20 suggested donation (more if you can, less if you can’t).  All proceeds will be donated to help earthquake victims in Nepal via the Blue Butterfly Foundation (www.bluebutterflyfoundation.org) and the Himalayan Yeti Club, where 100% of donations go directly to local people in need.  All participants are donating their services, and the event is sponsored by the Rosendale Theatre, Ulster Savings Bank, and Chronogram.
